BRAND funds two Jacqueline C. Garrick Scholarships each year, one for an undergraduate and one for a graduate student in dietetics attending a college or university in the Blue Ridge area. Each award is worth $300.00 and will be presented at the spring BRAND meeting in 2014. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage professionalism in the field of dietetics. This scholarship was initiated by BRAND in recognition of the significant contributions Ms. Garrick made to our association.

Jacqueline Garrick received her B.S. from South Carolina State College and completed her dietetic internship at the John A. Andrew Memorial Hospital of the Tuskegee Institute. She was employed at Western State Hospital where she worked for two years as a dietitian.

At the age of thirteen, Ms. Garrick learned that she had diabetes. From that experience, she decided to study dietetics, and was very dedicated to the profession. Jackie was well liked by professionals, patients, and peers, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Meningitis, complicated by her diabetes, eventually ended her short life.
